Creating Healthy Sleep Habits for Your 7-Year-Old: A Guide for Parents



It’s during sleep that our bodies repair and restore themselves, and this is especially important for young children who are still growing and developing. In this article, we’ll discuss how much sleep your 7-year-old child needs, the importance of a bedtime routine, and tips for creating a sleep-conducive environment.

How much sleep does a 7-year-old need?

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children between the ages of 6 and 12 get between 9 and 12 hours of sleep each night. This means that your 7-year-old child should be getting at least 9 hours of sleep each night, and ideally closer to 11 or 12.

It’s important to note that every child is different, and some may need more or less sleep than others. Pay attention to your child’s behavior and energy levels during the day, and adjust their bedtime accordingly if they seem to be consistently tired or lethargic.
